HOW DO I JOIN INSPIRATIONS WRITING GROUP (IWG)?
I started IWG in 2010, after it became evident to me that writing is a very lonely and demoralising occupation. I needed the support of other writers who understood the emotions I was going through almost on a weekly basis, because although my family are extremely supportive, there are only so many times they can cope with hearing me harp on about the latest draft, or the forty-second letter I'd received which included the words "...not right for us."
It was brilliant speaking and listening to other people feeling the same emotions as me. Together, we built IWG into what it is today, a vibrant proactive group providing support, information and encouragement to other writers. In 2017, IWG was a finalist in the Kent Creative Awards and though we didn't ultimately win, it raised our profile and gave every member a boost to their confidence. Since then, several members have gone on to fulfil their dreams and ambitions.
IWG regularly publishes member's work in their anthologies, currently working our way through our Rainbow Series, we are about to start Indigo.
You can join by simply turning up and seeing if this group is what you're looking for. If it is, then the fee is £10 a year and that allows you to:
- Submit work for consideration into the next anthology
- Take part in the numerous learning opportunities to improve your writing skills by attending our monthly meetings. (Refreshments with donation.)
- Be a member of the National Association of Writing Groups (individual membership £25 normally per year otherwise)
- Be part of an amazing group of people interested in you and your work.
- Join us at events promoting the group's and your work.
- Access to our closed Face Book pages including social, critiquing, publishing and notes.
- The opportunity to have your own Author Bio on our website.
Just go to: IWG website to see details of dates and times.
CAN I SHARE MY WRITING WITH YOU?
Sadly, I cannot respond to personal writing requests. I have done so in the past and my own work has suffered as a result. I would strongly recommend that you join a local writing group. Every group is unique, they each seem to run in a different way. If you go to one and don't like it, don't give up. There will be one for you somewhere. IWG has members coming monthly from all over East Kent travelling over twenty miles to get here.
However, if like me, you're considering setting up your own writing group and would like some advice and input, I would love to help.
It would be wonderful to have further branches of IWG out there other than just Thanet.
There are a number of on-line sites supporting writers, but beware of any asking for money to let you join or review your work. They are likely to be businesses out to make money and are not really interested in getting your work in print no matter how sweetly they say it. Just on taking your money.
If you have any further questions, please put them in my contact form and who knows, it may end up here.
