,I've recently returned from Novacon 47, a literary Sci-fi conference in Nottingham. Their guest of honour was Adrian Tchaikovsky who sported the same FantasyCon bag which I received in Brighton 5 years ago. It seems he and I were at the same event.
I didn't sell many books, but I learnt a great deal and met lots of interesting people. IT was more a regional Conference with many individuals attending for 20 - 30 years. Their children had been conceived there it seems and it seemed very much a family event. I felt a bit of an outsider.
The dealer room wasn't so much, with only 6 of us, 5 of us selling and signing books. The hotel was great and so was the food, but I was gutted a forgot my cossie to have a swim.
I learnt a lot about what Conferences to consider next and what sells. Every conference gives out free tote bags so my long handled tote bags didn't sell, but my cups did. (lesson 1 learnt.) I couldn't even give away the free magnetic book marks.
I'm continuing with Nanowrimo, but struggling. I'm at 20,000+ when I should be at 26,000. That's 6,000 down and likely to be 12,000 in 15 days if I don't get my finger out. I'm doing the Winter craft fair at the Winter Gardens Sunday 19th if anyone's interested. I'll probably write there.
Short blog today as I'm knee deep in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) and about 6,000 words behind!
Needless to say, I did decide to go ahead with the effort, though I'm half regretting it now. I finished at 2am last night and tonight might be the same as I've Pilates shortly. On Friday I drive to Nottingham to attend the Sci-Fi Conference on Saturday. I've booked a table to do an author signing complete with merchandise to get some idea of my target audience and whether writing for money is worth it. My head is already saying it won't work, but my heart refusing to stop. I am officially stupid.
So, I better get on. I was hoping to dragon this blog, but the thing's temperamental at the best of times. Speak probably after NaNo finishes or I blow a fuse.
