Its mid-August and everyone in the UK thinks 32 degrees is hot. Try Arizona, currently its 42 degrees there. So hot you run from your car to the shade, or air-conditioned shop, to avoid taking too many breaths that sear the inside of your throat. Don’t think about sitting on an outside wall, chair, or even the grass. I tried walking a few paces bare foot across the patio in the late afternoon. Lesson Learnt

Yes, we’ve recently returned from our two-week vacation in the USA. Started out well. We enjoyed being in the company of our good friends, travelling through amazing scenery, shooting guns on the range and eating lovely food. (Travelogue to follow on my YouTube channel shortly Carol M. Salter)

I did have a bit of a blip a few days in. I won’t bore you regards lengthy details; however, I can now say I’ve been in an E.R. department. The staff were amazing, very professional and kind. Moving on.

I’d decided to do my usual thing and leave a few free books lying around. Gave one to our friends. Dropped a second into the reception book basket at Casa Sedona Inn. Check it out, a real treat retreat—intentional pun—Review on my Trip Adviser page – Carol M. Salter.

The third was going into the La Posada hotel at Winslow. A place made famous by the Eagles because it’s where the song, Take It Easy, was completed. Apparently, Frey got stranded there and Jackson Browne was struggling for words to finish the verse.
La Posada (the Resting Place) is considered to be a masterpiece by architect Mary Elizabeth Jane Colter and is Fred Harvey’s Last Great Railroad Hotel. Harvey is accredited to have “civilized the west” by introducing linen, silverware, china, crystal, and impeccable service to railroad travel. He developed and ran all the hotels and restaurants of the Santa Fe Railway, eventually controlling a hospitality empire that spanned the entire continent. Harvey was so legendary that MGM made a movie called, The Harvey Girls starring Judy Garland.

My reason for not leaving a book? The place was a veritable library. Every bedroom contained a full floor-to-ceiling bookcase, reception also, plus a bookshop existed on site. The chances of my book being picked out, let alone read were minimal. Instead, I gave a second book to our friends. Not sure what they’ll make of it. Aquasapien is an acquired taste.

Meanwhile, I’ve been getting great feedback on Between Here & Hell. Everyone who’s seen it loves the cover, and those who are reading/read it, tell me it’s very good. Positive comments make me feel like I’m doing something okay, and gives me the incentive to continue.
